You guys were right - only two days after that first mod I've been bitten by the mod bug!

I was doing some research today (playing on internet while at work) about plenums and plenum spacers. I've decided that I like the Motordyne 5/16 plenum spacer, or the APS Tall Boy and consider modifying my engine cover to suit it.

My question is: Does having a plenum spacer and a gasket above and below it - all sandwiched in between the upper and lower plenum - affect the structural integrity of our engine? Does that make sense? Am I overanalyzing?

I think once I save up to my DD conversion install this will be my next purchase. The genreral consensus seems to be that this mod is the best bang for the buck.

The MD spacer is fine even under boost.

I was doing some research today (playing on internet while at work) about plenums and plenum spacers. I've decided that I like the Motordyne 5/16 plenum spacer, or the APS Tall Boy and consider modifying my engine cover to suit it.There are several options for improving the intake flow through the plenum.

The OEM plenum slopes down in the front so that it would clear the strut rod on the 350z. That restricts air flow to the front two cylinders. Most of the one-piece plenums are designed to solve this by raising the front of the plenum.

The G35's engine (VQ35) also benefits from a larger plenum volume. Most one-piece plenums and all spacers are designed to improve plenum volume.

You can just remove the engine cover. All it does is hold heat in the engine. Besides, you want people to be able to see your hot new plenum if you get one.

My question is: Does having a plenum spacer and a gasket above and below it - all sandwiched in between the upper and lower plenum - affect the structural integrity of our engine? Does that make sense? Am I overanalyzing? It's smart to consider every possibility for problems when modifying the engine in your G35. The plenum is two-piece to start with, so sandwiching an additional plate between the plenum halves doesn't hurt anything. There are literally thousands of plenum spacers in use with no problems.
