Double Din Conversion will begin soon...Just ordered all the conversion parts from j's garage, as well as the wiring harnesses and adaptors.

This is what the upgrade is starting with...

Kenwood Excelon DDX8017
Kenwood KCA-IP500 IPod adaptor
Kenwood SIR-KEN1 Sirius satellite tuner

will eventually add the nav and maybe the HD radio tuner. contemplating getting the center speaker to go with the HU as well. Also know that I will need to upgrade the speakers and amp and get a subwoofer, but will admit to being completely clueless to what direction I should go with. I should be able to at least do the DD conversion and install the HU myself, but will likely need a professional installation for the rest.

Would appreciate any input on what speakers/amp I should consider and where to do the install.

if you can install the HU, the speakers will be no problem.

as for brands, I'm partial to Memphis. IMO definatly best bang for your buck.

ive heard good n bad about memphis. if u want high end, id go w/ focal, boston, something like that. im very happy w/ my new boston system. its their entry level 12" powered by a 500w amp. u can check my sig 4 the model #s. my gains @ 50% n its still really loud while still remaining crisp n clear. this is coming from a 760w pioneer amp n 2 12"s in my accord that made that car vibrate like no other heh.

I went with the carputer, but also did Polk components in the front, polk 6x9s in the rear, and don't forget about the extra set of 6 1/2s between the front and rear seats.

If you count the tweeters on the components, there are 8 speakers on the inside of the G35, the 6x9s are factory set to low pass, to emulate subwoofers, its MUCH clearer once you replace them and bypass the factory BOSE amplifier. I also did an Infinity Kappa 12 in the tirewell, it sounds really nice. It's not too much, just right.

Finished my double din conversion this weekend... I actually did the double din conversion myself including soldering the dual button and led onto the new circuit board (what a PITA that was). Got to actually hooking the headunit up to all the wires/navigation/ipod/sirius and realized that I was in waaaayyy over my head. Dennis at HiFi buys in Snellville did a great job with the rest of the install. Anyway, so now I'm running everything I listed above plus the kenwood navigation system with voice activation. It's been awesome... Definitely think that the sound clarity is better even with the stock speakers. Will eventually upgrade those and the amp as well, but the wife has said that car modding is on hold for awhile. :zzwhip: Future plans include getting a real alarm for the car, passport 8500+/- laser shifter, upgrading the speakers/amp, and eventually FI (leaning towards vortech supercharger but someone on driver said the vortech won't work with the 05???) anyway... On to some pics...

I'm wondering, is there any way for you to cover up the screen, or is it exposed constantly? I would be worried about everybody being able to just peek through my window and see it sitting there. But thats just me. The install looks great. You did a great job!!! :Wow:

Not really a way to cover up the screen per say, but with my windows at 20%, it's hard to see that the radio is actually in there. The only thing that may give it away from being the stock radio would be the navigation and sirius antennas. I will say that for someone to steal it they would have to work fairly hard. no snatch and grab since the unit is screwed in the the factory bracket which is screwed to the surrounding parts.

I have 20% tint too and you can still look through the window and see the dash. But you are right someone would have to work hard to steal it or just know what they are doing. Still looks great though. :23:
