Registration is now open for Roebling Road

Wanted to send out an official announcement that registration is now open for our June 19-20 high performance driver's ed and time trial event at Roebling Road Raceway (www.roeblingroad.com) near Savannah, GA.

For all the details, please visit www.timetrials.net or www.triangleZclub.com - but in short, we rent a track and spend two days learning it and learning to drive our cars at speed with experienced, seasoned, and tested track veterans riding with us to teach us the ropes.

If it's your first time, consider it "Introduction to high-speed, road-course driving". Your car simply has to be safe, and you only need a certified helmet, clothes of natural fibers (usually long sleeves and long pants) and sneakers that aren't too bulky. You'll be amazed at how much you will learn, not only about your car, but also about yourself. You know you've wondered what it would be like to be behind the wheel of a race car, taking the twisties at blinding speeds... well, let's not get ahead of ourselves, but our events give you the opportunity in a safe, structured (but not overly restrictive) environment to experience race course driving without the costs and dangers associated with head-to-head amateur or professional racing.

In comparison with other motorsports events, there is no question you get the most seat time. We offer three on-track, at speed sessions per day at about 30 minutes each. That's close to THREE HOURS of seat time. Compare THAT to your local autocross where if you're lucky, you'll be behind the wheel for about 10 minutes... with lots of waiting in between (and they usually make you work the corners too! UGGH! ). When you're not on track at our events, you'll receive world class training and discussion in the classroom portions of the weekend. We have dedicated instructors who will help each group tackle problems in general and specific problems with certain corners or techniques you may be having a hard time with.

For those of you who've done this before, you know what I'm talking about. So as an added benefit, we also offer a SOLO I style competitive time trial at the end of each day. The time trial is open to qualified participants (visit www.timetrials.net for the details) with cars passing our time trial safety standards (modified SCCA SOLO I specs). Cars will be classed appropriately to ensure competitive times and sent out three or four cars at a time. Cars will be spaced so there will be no passing or risk of 'entanglement' and timed similar in fashion to a qualifying session: warm-up lap, followed by three hot laps, ending with a cool-down lap. You will be accurately timed and trophies will be awarded to class winners. We even have a season points system for those who frequent our events.

Member pricing is $235 for the weekend, $255 for non-members and any entry received after May 29th. The time trial is an additional $25. Please visit the websites above for links to forms and other important information.

Thank you for your time.

This is the same people/org that 2003z and I rad with a few weekends ago at the VIR: South Course.

I highly recomend their events. They are well organized and have high quality instructors.

Anyone that has not been at a HPDE and would like to try one this is a good oppertunity as they really care about making sure that you learn and not simply go out an "play" on the track... The best instruction I have recieved from any instructors were from the two I encountered and talked with at their event at VIR...

Hmmm. This does sound doable.

jtree, thanks for the kind words... and pimp, hope you can make it.

For those of you unfamiliar with Roebling Road, it is a very good track to start on and it is also a very good track to stretch the legs of your car.

Check it out here: www.roeblingroad.com

Frankly, it looks a little boring - but it's basically a bunch of long sweepers strung together with a 1/2 mile long straight. With an increasing-radius turn leading onto that straight, you can really get some velocity going. :D

The other cool thing about it is that there are actually two or three different lines that work on that track. It's a really good track to steer with the throttle.

There are still plenty of spots available. As a bonus - I will honor the member price for anyone driving a Z or a G.

Are the helmets required similar to motorcycle helmets? or is there a different "standard" here?....

There is still some room - especially for a 350z! Email me with all your info (name, address, phone etc.) as well as your car specs and especially your experience level. Send me three choices for car numbers (we'll provide if you don't have any). Email me at zstackgo@hotmail.com or trackevents@cox.net.

For helmets, we accept motorcycle helmets that are Snell Rated M95 or better. DOT approved doesn't cut it for our purposes. There is a chance next year we will start requiring the Snell SA rated helmets (Special Application) that are tested to an even higher standard than the M rated helmets.

There's more info than you'll ever want to know here: http://www.smf.org/stds.html

And i got a room at the Ramada, 2003z, so i'll see ya'll there. When do you plan to arrive, Fri nite or Sat a.m.?

You don't know how stoked i am for this event...after taming the dragon a few weeks ago, i feel the need for speed again in the curves....

Hey guys... we'll be doing event check-in at the Ramada Limited between 6:00 and probably 10:00 Friday night - if at all possible, try to get there in time to check in then - it will save us some time Saturday morning.

I realize you're coming across state though.

Thanks!

Who else is going?

Rogue370z

I'm in. be there about 9:00-10:00.

Are you coming to the event or not, jtree?

StackTrack

jtree is signed up...

Here's the Z & G breakdown:

1 each: 240z, 260z, 280z
2 300zx TTs (including a 500+ HP beauty)
7 350Zs
1 350Z SC
2 G35s

Not bad for Savannah - I usually have the hardest time getting Zs out to this event (in comparison, we had over 25 Zs at our Feb event at VIR)

We've got about 60 students, which is also good for this event. Good mix of Porsches, BMWs, Corvettes, Miatas (they usually don't like this track - can't make up as much ground in the turns as on tight course) - even some full blown race cars (2 Porsche GT3 Cup cars, 2 Radicals)

Should be a very fun weekend... and did I mention we are allowing shorts and short sleeves?

See you guys down there!

yeah, I had a blast too. Probably should have driven sunday, but I had a long 2 weeks, were out very late on saturday and I wanted to sleep in, plus we needed to get home early enough to pick the dogs up at kennel.

My top speed on the straight was 126

StackTrack

We were wondering where you got off to on Sunday... :-)

Can't say as I blame you either. Though Sunday I thought it was a little cooler (not as sweltering would be a better term I suppose), not as much of a breeze though.

For this event next year, we're considering having Sunday's time trial in the morning so students can sleep in.

Kershaw is in October, so the heat shouldn't be an issue - we've always had beautiful weather there.

BTW- - any word on LeMans 350z's video? I can't wait to see those!

Again... thanks so much for coming out. As soon as I get settled I'll post an update on the upcoming events.

Registration for the Kershaw event is open... Go ahead and take the member price of $245 since you guys drive a Z...

As above - forms available at www.timetrials.net

See you next time!!
