Each year, the Elephant Seals of Piedras Blancas return to the same beach along California's central coast for mating and birthing.
This year, for the first time ever.........
they saw a 350Z. :D

Driving your 350Z on Hwy 1 along California's coast.....
Seeing 15' long, two ton elephant seals up close and personal.....
Drinking dark beer as the sun sets.....
Does it get better than this?

Unfortunately, my sunset pictures of my Z didn't come out so good :(
But hopefully my sunrise pictures tomorrow morning will be better.

Did they all faint?

No, they didn't faint. I wasn't quick enough to catch them all dancing and what not like they were doing as soon as I pulled into the parking lot. These pictures show them just plum tuckered out after all the excitement.

Those are really great pics Jeff. Man am I jealous. I would just love a sunsplashed beach about now, but all we have here is the east is this cold white stuff.

That's a sweet picture Doc.
I mean, that's Hall of Fame stuff there.
Great colors, beautiful car, perfect lighting.
There is only one thing that would have made posting that picture better.
:D :D :D

Jeff,
Always good time on the Cal coast with a Z and dark beer in hand(not at the same time of course). I went to Sedona AZ, and had a great time with my Z and my dark beer. I think is time to move!

Safremon,
What's the name of the hotel. Must that the better half there and set on the deck and catch the sunset. Looks like an ideal spot.

Scafremon, thanks for the beach side views. I need a break from all this white stuff we have here. Doc, Beautiful shot of the Brickyard. Definitely should have it's own thread. Show us more. Peace. -m

Best Western Cavalier Resort.
I actually just booked a room there for mid Feb - planning another drive up the coast.

Hi Scaf....
Those are positively the best photos of elephant seals I have ever seen. The pic with the big bull immediately became my wallpaper. Then to combine it with the excitement of viewing the 350Z for the first time...that put the frosting on the cake. You are too much.
By the way, there is another 350Z around Sonora. It is a Lemans. So we have two in this small community. The next time you get up this way, let's have lunch. OK.

I must concur! Those were the BEST photos of elephant seals I have ever seen.
(did I mention that they were the ONLY photos of elephant seals I had ever seen?) ;)

I have always enjoyed your posts, Dr. Bonz.
I must admit that photo of your 350Z in the ice storm is the best photo I have ever seen of a 350Z in an ice storm. Then again, we don't see ice storms in California. All kidding aside, that photo is a keeper. I sent it to a friend of mine in PA who has recently purchased a red Ferrari Testarosa show car...his life long dream. His comment was "'what is he doing driving that beautiful Z in an ice storm? "

Thanks for the info - and your assistance. Booked a room for Feb. 7th and 8th. 4 hour drive from the San Francisco bay area - but it will be worth the trip.

How was trip zeelee? Post pictures and stuff when you get a chance.
We are going back there next weekend. This time we are staying a night at the Cavalier, then the following night in Monterey.
I'm currently reviewing the drive plan for the trip, south of San Simeon. If anyone is familiar with the following roads, please advise thoughts.
Refugio Rd from the 101 to the 246 (Santa Barbara County). I'm wondering if a portion of this road is unpaved, just north of the pass.
Foxen Canyon Rd and Tepusquet Rd - These look like nice drives through wine country.

Scafremon,
Great trip - tried to send you a PM with details - typed a book twice but was unable to send it for some reason. Will try again tomorrow.

I went back to San Simeon this past weekend. The elephant seals were still there, but it was quite different this time. Last month, for every pup there was a mother. This time, most of the moms had already returned to the ocean, and the pups were now alone. The pups were also 300 lbs heavier, from a month of drinking the most potent mothers milk in the mammal kingdom.
The moms that were still there were much thinner, having nursed their pups for 30 days, and also from fasting for the past month.
Here is a picture of a very well fed pup. His coat has changed from black to grey, which means he is almost ready to hit the surf, and learn to swim.
